Assignment 1

Hi, everyone! My name is Sumaya Nasir. I am an American citizen with south-Asian descent, and I use that to my advantage. Ever since I was little, I knew I just wanted to help people. Nothing makes me happier than putting smiles on people’s faces. When I started high school, everything changed. I joined an organization called DRUM. This stands for Desis Rising Up and Moving. DRUM helps people in the south-Asian community with their immigration status, worker status, education, racial profiling, etc. I never knew before DRUM that truly anyone could be undocumented and how they were living in fear. This hurt my heart and I wanted to resolve this. I want people to know that there is someone with a heart that has stuff that they do not and will go the extra mile for them. I want them to know that I want to be their voice and make sure injustice is not happening anymore through gender, social status, color, age, etc. I want to make the world a better place.
