Due Sunday, September 3rd, by midnight. Word count: 300 words. Please make sure everything is in your own words. Absolutely no quotes should be used. If you paraphrase from the text (from Davis or anywhere else), you must be sure to include the proper citation (either MLA or APA).

In chapter 3, Davis references many details pertaining to the history of the women’s movement.  Choose one detail, this can be either a historical figure or author she references or an event such as one of the anti-slavery conventions.*  In reference to this figure or event, what do you believe Davis is trying to tell us about the relationship of gender, race, and class?

*For this assignment, more points will be awarded to students who find a detail in Davis’s work that has NOT been addressed in prior posts.

% Astrit Astafaj completed

Hi everyone, my name is Astrit Astafaj. I am a sophomore at Hunter College. I live in Staten Island. I am majoring in economics because I enjoy the business aspect of society and hope to learn more about how our society functions. For this class, I hope to gain a perspective on woman and learn the different struggles that they faced in the past. I would also like to see how roles of woman have changed over time and how they have been able to over overcome obstacles towards equality. It is also important to notice that women still face discrimination and it is pertinent to not ignore it.

My name is Michael Li. I am from Jersey City, but New York is my stomping grounds.  My family is from China, but I have never left the US east coast.  I am a computer science major with no intentions on working with computers at all.

As for this class, I look forward to being able to add to my perspective, ideas and concepts about gender in our society.  I do not expect to integrate what I learn to something specific other than everyday life. I welcome new ideas and look forward to someone, or something that would challenge my own.

% Jonathan Khan completed

Hello everyone. My name is Jonathan Khan. From a very young age, I have aspired to join the United States Marine Corps as a Scout Sniper. While I wait out the enlistment process, I am looking into pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in economics. Before attending Hunter, I was a student at Queensborough Community College. I’m not entirely certain which economics profession I want to take on after obtaining my degree, but I am seriously considering becoming more invested in the stock market business. Though I was born in the United States, I am also of Guyanese and Trinidadian heritage. I enrolled in this class mainly because I am interested in learning more about the views that society has towards women and why it is these beliefs exist. I also want to have a better understanding of what it means to be a woman in todays society.

% Danielle Edwards completed

Hi everyone, my name is Danielle Edwards. I am from Brooklyn. I am a first year student here at Hunter College. I intend to be a political science major with a concentration in international relations and affairs. I would also like to minor in film studies or philosophy because I am very interested in these areas too. For this class, I am particularly looking forward to learning more about the history of women in society and how the roles of women have shifted over time. I would also like to learn why in today’s society there is still a lot of discrimination towards women and the LGBTQ+ community and why there are still stereotypes about genders and sexuality which still shape people’s opinions.
